US Natural Gas Production in 2018 Sets Record For Second Consecutive Year - Energy Dept.

Production of natural gas in the United States grew by 10 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2018, an 11 percent increase from 2017, reaching a record high for the second year in a row, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in a report on Thursday

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th March, 2019) Production of natural gas in the United States grew by 10 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2018, an 11 percent increase from 2017, reaching a record high for the second year in a row, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in a report on Thursday.

"US natural gas production measured as gross withdrawals averaged 101.3 Bcf/d in 2018, the highest volume on record," the EIA said in the agency's monthly Natural Gas Production Report. "US natural gas production measured as marketed production and dry natural gas production also reached record highs at 89.

6 Bcf/d and 83.4 Bcf/d, respectively."

In 2017, a year in which the US became a net natural gas exporter for the first time, overall output also set a new record, according to earlier EIA reports.

As natural gas production increased in 2018, the volume of natural gas exports - both through pipelines and as liquefied natural gas (LNG) - increased for the fourth consecutive year, the latest report said.

Total natural gas exports grew 14 percent in 2018, and liquified natural gas (LNG) exports grew by 53 percent to 3.0 Bcf/d, the release added.
