Wintershall CEO Expects Danish Permit for Nord Stream 2 Pipeline by End of June

Wintershall CEO Mario Mehren said on Thursday he expected Denmark to wave through the Nord Stream 2 pipeline carrying Russian gas by the end of June

KASSEL (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st March, 2019) Wintershall CEO Mario Mehren said on Thursday he expected Denmark to wave through the Nord Stream 2 pipeline carrying Russian gas by the end of June.

He said at the firm's annual press conference in Kassel that the Nord Stream 2 AG behind its construction - of which Wintershall is a financial investor - based its estimates on the expectation of getting a permit to build the Danish segment in the first half of 2019.

Nord Stream 2 is a joint venture of Russia's Gazprom and five European partners - Germany's Uniper and Wintershall, France's Engie, Austria's OMV, and Royal Dutch Shell - who pledged to finance 50 percent of the $10.

9 billion project.

The pipeline is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2019. It will bring an annual 1.9 trillion cubic feet of gas across the Baltic Sea to the European Union, passing territorial waters or exclusive economic zones of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. Denmark is still looking into it.
