Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has set a record of highest enrollment in spring 2018 semester, as more than 7,00,000 (seven lac) registered themselves for their future study.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Sep, 2018 ) :Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has set a record of highest enrollment in spring 2018 semester, as more than 7,00,000 (seven lac) registered themselves for their future study.

This was the result of some news initiatives, bringing qualitative improvement in the University's overall working.

During the last four years, an enabling environment was created that motivated and encouraged the University's staff and officers to provide best possible services to the University.

This was stated by the Director Admissions, Syed Ziaul Hasnain Naqvi while addressing a function held here for giving commendation certificates to the workers of Directorate of Admissions and Mailing who performed the best in enhancing the University's image and trust among the students.

The function was also addressed by Dean Education, Dr. Nasir Mahmood and Dean Social Sciences, Dr. Samina Awan and Incharge Mailing section, Dr. Amjad Ali who also spoke about the University's achievements in the recent years, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui.

The function was presided over by the Vice Chancellor who is going to complete his four-year tenure next month. It was noted that there was a down-ward trend of enrollment till spring 2013 that was checked successfully through some new steps.�� The university laid major focus on maximum use of new technology in facilitating the students in enrollment process and timely delivery of books.

Besides this, 26 brand new academic programs were introduced and the University was developed as research-based educational institution.

The University's image was reconstructed by carrying out all-round development work, particularly in fields of research, professional development and revision of curriculum, besides strengthening the students' support system.

It made headway towards publishing accredited research journals, holding national and international conferences that provided a platform to young researchers to showcase their research work.

The University got record research-based projects from Higher Education Commission (HEC) and international agencies. It also won three indexing agencies from the HEC in an open competition for providing free online access to research articles, facilitating researchers and academicians.

Dr. Shahid Siddiqui thanked the University's employees for giving him overwhelming support in achieving his some set academic targets.

He said he gave them respect, trust and space to work that helped to make the University's as a role-model educational education in the country.�The University's educational contribution was appreciated and acknowledged even by the relevant standing committees of the Parliament, he added.
