The Administration of Gomal University has removed three Head of the Departments (HoDs) from their offices for unjustified boycott of classes for last few days and instigating students against the administration.
According to official document, they were found involved in creating hurdles in the smooth conduct of classes, hampering precious academic process. Those who were removed included Chairman Communication and Media Studies department Prof Dr Wasim Akbar and assigned the charge to Chairman Islamic Studies and Arabic Prof Dr Salahuddin.
Similarly, Chairman Chemistry Prof Dr Azim Khattak was removed and the charge was given to Chairman Biological Sciences Dr Halim Shah while Chairman Computer Science Jamal Nasir was replaced by Iqbal Zeb Khattak.
The Gomal University Academic Staff Association (GUASA) was protesting from the last week demanding reinstatement of the sacked employees of class III and IV. Earlier, GUASA had setup a protest camp in front of GPO main bazaar DI Khan against the University administration for not accepting their demands and issuing showcase notices to teachers and sacked employees.
President GUASA, Shoab Gangohi, General Secretary Dr. Shahid Kamal said that their protest would continue till their demands were not fulfilled.
Speaking on this occasion, Shoaib Gangohi alleged Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sarwar and acting Registrar Dil Nawaz Khan were misusing their powers and serving show cause notices to over 90 employees, mostly teachers, who were appointed through by themselves in 2008 and 2014.
He alleged that the appointment of even Acting Registrar Dil Nawaz Khan was illegal and he was trying to take such steps to victimize the employees to protect his post. GUASA President said the administration has also cut non-attractive area allowance for teachers by 50 percent and abolished the teachers' ward quota.
When contacted Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Sarwar Khan, he rejected all the allegations and said that the protest was started when show-cause notices were served to 90 employees as per the directives of then Governor KP in 2015.
The VC said the governor was of the opinion that the selection boards formed in 2008 and 2014 were illegal, therefore, the process under which these employees were selected by these selection boards had to be declared null and void, adding, "action would be taken against those employees who were appointed illegal," he maintained.
