Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood Tuesday said the government was focusing on four key areas of education, including enrollment of out-of-school children, providing quality education, skills development of youth and introducing a uniform education system across the country.
Speaking at a function held here in connection with the 60-year celebrations of Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, a Germany based organization, he said the Ministry of Education had collaboration with Germany in skills development of the youth.
Referring to strong bilateral relations between the two countries, he vowed to further strengthen cooperation in education, skills development, climate change and economic sectors. "We are taking benefit from the experiences of Germany," he added.
The government, he said, was working to bring out-of-school children to educational institutions with public-privatepartnership. In that regard, he said, the education ministry would launch an enrollment programme for them on November 27.
Shafqat lauded the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for its efforts which it was making in collaboration of local non-governmental organizations for the betterment of children and the civil society.
Later, talking to media persons after the event, the minister said the government had completed many tasks under its first 100-day plan, including elimination of corruption, announcement of a housing scheme for the poor and improvement in the education sector.
He said the government was making serious efforts to resolve the issue of daily-wage teachers.
Speaking on the occasion, German Ambassador Martin Kobler highlighted the importance of education for the development of any country."No education mean no development."He said the Friedrich Naumann Foundation was also working in collaboration with multilateral institutions such as the European Union for strengthening local governance system in the country.
Meanwhile, the minister, in his message on the World Children Day, vowed to get 25 million out-of-school children across the country enrolled during next five years. In first phase, he said, around 28,000 children in the Federal Capital would be brought back to schools.
