Improvement Of Curriculum With Focus On Science Subjects Decided

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah Friday directed the education department to update curriculum in alignment with the United Nations sustainable goals 2030.
He stated this while presiding over a meeting to improve school education system here at Chief Minister House which was also attended by Sindh Minister for Education Syed Sardar Shah, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary Education Qazi Shahid Parvez and others.
The CM said that keeping in view the shortage of the teachers of science, mathematics and English, the recruitment for the vacant posts should be made through a special process.
Briefing the meeting, Sindh Secretary School Education Qazi Shahid Pervaiz said that 483 schools had been upgraded to middle and high school levels, building of 185 existing Primary and secondary schools had been reconstructed, 214 shelterless schools had been provided with new buildings and three public schools at Ghotki, Tando Adam and Umerkot had been established.
The Chief Minister was told that 4,206 high enrollment schools were being provided with basic missing facilities like boundary wall, washrooms, drinking water, furniture and construction of additional class rooms.
Some 2,632 schools would be made functional by June 30, 2019, he added.
Replying to a question, Sindh Minister for Education Sardar Shah said that 22,844,303 children including 6,413,227 boys and 3,383,270 girls were out-of-school in the province.
The chief minister was told that out of 43 state-of-the-art high schools constructed under USAID-funded Sindh Basic Education programme, 20 schools had been handed over to run them on PPP mode.
Murad said that the initiative of his government to provide stipend of Rs3500 each girl student was a good step.
"We are providing free of charge books and even do not charge examination fees, he said and added that over 30,000 teachers have been hired during the last 10 years on merit and 957 headmasters have been recruited through IBA while 40,000 in-service teachers have been trained.
He also issued directives for rehabilitation of 870 schools immediately and remaininhg 4,685 schools by June 2022.
