Japanese Calendar Exhibition Begins In Sindh University

The two-day Japanese calendar exhibition 2019 was inaugurated at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro on Monday by Mext Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP) Sindh chapter and the Institute of Art & Design (IAD) in collaboration with Japanese consulate in Karachi
The exhibition was organized at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto gallery of the Institute of Art and Design, University of Sindh, was inaugurated by Consulate General of Japan at Karachi Toshikazu Isomura along with the Focal Person Thatta Campus Prof. Dr. Sarfraz Hussain Solangi.
The calendars featured various themes related to traditional and contemporary Japanese art, sports, automobiles, nature, architecture and more. In addition to depicting Japan's socio-cultural development over centuries, these calendars also showcased multiple facets of the Japanese print technology. Most of the calendars on display were produced by Japanese companies, and many were printed on recycled paper.
This year, around 150 calendars have been put on display with the cooperation of Japan Calendars Association, various Japanese companies and Consulate of Japan in Karachi.
Speaking on the occasion, the Consulate General Toshikazu Isomura said the purpose of holding the event was to introduce various aspects of Japan to the youth of Sindh studying at the university.
He said the calendars put on display gave a vibrant depiction of the Japanese heritage and cultural identity through reflection of images from traditional and contemporary arts, sports, automobiles, nature, legacy and architecture.
He said the consulate will extend its all-out support to the University of Sindh if it established a department like Pakistan-Japan language and culture at its campus.
Prof. Dr Sarfaraz Hussain Solangi said that the variety of calendars represented the beauty and the true image of Japan.
He said that the event was a way to encourage people-to-people contact and gain information about the development of various sectors in Japan. "Such cultural programmes will prove helpful for artists and the public at Sindh University, the purpose of the exhibition is to introduce various aspects of Japan to our young students", he said.
Among others, President MAAP Prof. Dr. Wazir Ali Baloch, Dean Faculty of Arts Dr. Abdul Ghani Shaikh and Prof. Saeed Mangi also addressed the participants of the ceremony.
