Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Minister for education Sardar Farooq Ahmad Tahir Wednesday assured Legislative Assembly that appropriate action would be taken against huge raise in fee by the private schools after thorough deliberations by his department
He made this assurance while responding a call attention notice by opposition member Abdul Majid Khan who wanted to move an adjournment motion for a debate in the house on the issue but speaker disallowed him turning it into a call attention notice saying the move was against the rules of business.
The mover said that unprecedented raise in the fees by private schools had broken the back bone of the parents and there was no check and balance on these schools which needed a thorough debate and appropriate action by the government.
Law Minister Raja Nisar Ahmad Khan said that the government was not against the debate in the house on the issue but one has to follow a prescribed procedure in the rules of business of the Assembly to move an adjournment motion on which speaker turned the motion into a call attention notice.
Minister for power development organization (PDO) Chudhary Rukhsar Ahmad while supporting the opposition member's concern said that the matter was of a great significance and government must take the issue with concern stake holders.
Treasury legislator Pir Ali Raza Bukhari also favored the move and said that the matter was of great significance and people had concerns not in AJK but also in Pakistan as the authorities had been debating to bring reforms in education sector.
He was of the view that existing education system in the country had polarized the society and emphasized the need to enforce similar curriculum in public and private sector schools to eliminate discrimination.
The mover Abdul Majid Khan said that the private schools had raised 100% fees and there had been no check and balance on them, therefore, being a public importance, the issue must be debated in the house and appropriate action shall be taken.
