Over 4466 degrees awarded at 8th Quaid-i-Azam University convocation

Federal Minister for Education and Professional Trainings Shafqat Mahmood Tuesday awarded around 4,466 degrees to students of various discipline at Quaid-i-Azam University's (QAU) convocation

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2019 ) :Federal Minister for Education and Professional Trainings Shafqat Mahmood Tuesday awarded around 4,466 degrees to students of various discipline at Quaid-i-Azam University's (QAU) convocation.

As many as 4466 graduates including 211 PhD, 1461 M.Phil, 2314 M.Sc and 480 BS received degrees in the QAU's 8th Convocation held here at Convention Centre.

As many as 30 students received Chancellor Medals while 152 students were conferred upon Vice Chancellor Medals, said a press release issued here.

The minister who was also a Pro-Chancellor of QAU congratulated the graduates, teachers and parents on their success day.

He said education was the best tool for the development of any state and the students were key resource to achieve the development goals set by the incumbent government.

"These students have shown through their academic brilliance that we are not lesser than any other developed nations. I am hopeful that they will contribute to the nation and will continue thriving in the field of knowledge" the minister added.

He said the challenge of providing quality education could only be addressed through the curriculum revision and faculty development.

QAU Vice Chancellor, Dr. Muhammad Ali highlighting the varsity's role in human resource development said, the University, since its inception, had produced 1746 Ph.D and 11,163 M.Phil graduates.

"The Training of M.Phil and PhD graduates within the country constitute a significant saving in foreign exchange. This can be judged from the fact that it costs more than 10-million rupees to get a PhD degree from a Foreign University, whereas we produce PhD of comparable quality at a low cost plus working on indigenous problems" said the Vice Chancellor.

Muhammad Ali said that QAU was focusing on enterprises development with emphasis on building relationships with industry and business.

He said, the university management was focusing on skill developments to produce employable graduates for the country.

He urged the government for providing support through HEC to complete infrastructure development projects of the university.
