Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National University of Modern Languages (NUML) to establish a mutual cooperation in research, capacity building, trainings, and sustainable development initiatives

ISLAMABAD (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / NNI - 19th March, 2019) Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National University of Modern Languages (NUML) to establish a mutual cooperation in research, capacity building, trainings, and sustainable development initiatives.Executive Director, SDPI Dr.

Abid Qaiyum Suleri and Lt. Gen. Zia Uddin Najam (SI) (M), Rector, NUML on behalf of their respective organizations signed the MoU on Tuesday here at NUML, Islamabad. Under the MoU, both organizations agreed to develop joint research proposals, holding joint leadership and capacity building events, conduct studies and exchange technical and scientific research techniques in addition to their published reports and studies.

Under the agreement, SDPI will offer summer internship and apprenticeship programs to the students of NUML in their specialized areas.Executive Director, SDPI Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri said our university students have great potential to play active and positive role in building a sustainable society.

We as independent civil society think tank and the university can help the students in realizing their true potential through providing capacity building training and engaging them in leadership development initiatives.

He said our universities need to develop its research capacity, as our public sector universities, particularly, lag behind in quality research.Lt. Gen. Zia Uddin Najam (SI) (M), Rector, NUML said the importance of policy research think tanks in developing countries like Pakistan cannot be ignored.

While acknowledging the poor research quality of public sector universities, he said that both SDPI and NUML can conduct joint research on issues of national importance such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change and development challenges.Shahid Minhas, Head of Centre for Learning and Development (CLD), SDPI and Amir Mustafa, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, NUML nominated as focal persons of their respective organization for this collaboration.
