Sindh Agriculture University, German University Jointly Start Week Long Online Short Course

The Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, and University of Cologne, Germany, have jointly started week-long certificate-based on-line short course on 'Basic Concepts of In-Vitro Cell Culture and Stem Cell Technology.
HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2018 ) :The Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, and University of Cologne, Germany, have jointly started week-long certificate-based on-line short course on 'Basic Concepts of In-Vitro Cell Culture and Stem Cell Technology.
According to a statement issued here on Friday, the world renowned stem cell scientists from Germany delivered their presentations on the first day.The course topics include basic cell culture technologies, safety protocols in handling genetically engineered cells, demonstration on reagents and instruments in stem cell technology and working with sterile cell culture laboratory.
The murine cell culture and cardiac infarction, cell transplantation in murine model of cardiac infarction and concepts of tissue banking and its potential role in stem cell and cancer research were also included in the course.
The SAU's spokesman said the short course was designed to provide a detailed introduction to the biology of stem cells. More importantly, the course introduces the main aspects of regenerative medicine that sought to devise new therapies for patients with severe injuries or chronic diseases in which the body's own responses did not suffice to restore functional tissue, he added.
He informed that the opening ceremony was held in the video conference facility of SAU after inauguration by Prof Dr Mujeeb Uddin Sahrai, Vice Chancellor.Prof Dr Jurgen Hescheler gave the opening presentation from Germany while the second presentation on concept of tissue banking and its potential role in stem cell and cancer research was delivered by Prof Dr Binafsha Manzoor Syed, Director ORIC, Liaqat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro.
The VC said he was committed to introduce novel approaches to uplift the academic and research standards of SAU.He further said that it was his dream to equip the university labs with most modern scientific equipment to enable both teachers and students to embark on problem-oriented researches.
Dean Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences Dr Noor Muhammad Soomro, Dean Social Sciences Dr Aijaz Khoharo, Director University Advancement Dr Ismael Kumbhar and Dr Abdullah Arijo, focal person, were also present.
