Speakers Highlight Importance Of National Electronics Policy

Speakers at a conference on "Challenges to Electronics Industry of Pakistan and its Future" Thursday discussed and highlighted the importance of National Electronics Policy.
Rector, National University of Science and Technology Khalid Asghar was chief guest and the keynote speaker at conference.
Rector National University of Technology Khalid Asghar highlighted the importance of capacity building and skill development of manpower in the field of electronics and allied technologies. He said that currently electronic industry has only 10 per cent share in the large scale manufacturing in the economy of the country. He said that it was mandate of National Institute of Electronics (NIE) to undertake projects to support the public and private sector industry in this field. He said the gap between industry and academia should be tinted to make strong mechanism to revive the industries in Pakistan.
Talking on the occasion, Director General (DG) NIE, Abdul Majeed Soomro expressed that the modern technologies of 21st century have excessively affected socio-economic structure of developed and developing countries.
He said that it is high time for universities, industries, research and development institutions of the country to be engaged in research and development activity of their vital areas.
He remarked that a consolidated recommendation based on the technical talks, deliberation and discussion of all stack holders will be compiled for the implementation by the concerned authorities accordingly.
Managing Director Rhode and Shwarz, Haris Ali talked about the role NIE can play in the field of high end quality testing in the field of EMC. He said this will support NIE to earn revenue and move towards standardization of products developed in Pakistan.
The speakers highlighted the key challenges being faced by the industry. They discussed in detailed the upcoming challenges in the field of technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT), Bock Chain which will transform every industry, society and economy of the world.
The conference was aimed at establishing close coordination and linkages among R&D organization, academia and industry. The conference was attended by the heads of relevant departments, research and development organizations, industrialists, university students and faculty members.
