Spring Tree Plantation Campaign Begins At Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU)

ISLAMABAD (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / NNI - 22nd March, 2019) Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) here on Friday launched spring tree plantation campaign in order to motivate its students and the Faculty to plant trees at their respective working and residential places.Vice Chancellor Professor Dr.
Zia-Ul-Qayyum inaugurated the month-long campaign by planting some seasonal saplings in the compound of University's main Campus. Around 50 saplings were planted on the first-day.The AIOU, being the mega educational institution with nearly 1.4 million students wished to play a leading role in developing Green Pakistan, said the Vice Chancellor.The campaign was arranged by the University's Horticulture Department.
The University has the distinction of regularly running the plantation campaign and taking part in various flowers' competitions at the local level, winning top positions.It has set up a botanical garden at the Campus for promoting research in horticulture sector.
The botanical garden works as open lab with documented collections of living plants for scientific research, conservation and display.The tree plantation event was participated by the officers and the staff of the University.
Those who planted saplings on the occasion included Dean Sciences Dr. Syed Zafar Ilyas, Dean Social Sciences Dr. Samina Awan and Dean Islamic Studies Dr. Mohyuddin Hashmi. NNI
