VCs Urge Govt To Ensure Higher Education Sector Development

The Vice Chancellors' Committee (VCC) on Monday urged the government to ensure the higher education sector development by reinstating its funding to the required level
Some 195 vice chancellors and rectors of public and private universities met here to review higher education funding for the current and next financial year, a Higher Education Commission press release received said.
According to the declaration of 23rd meeting of VCC:"The Vice Chancellors' Committee is fully cognizant of the financial constraints being faced by the government and commends government's assurances at all levels to try its best to maintain higher education funding.
"All the same, the goals of improving the quality of learning and research and protecting rights of students will require adequate funding, and may be compromised if funding is restricted to the IBC (Indicated Budgetary Ceiling) of Rs 58.
50 billion for the next FY 2019-20," it added.
The VCC urged the government to protect the development of higher education sector and restore its funding to maximum possible extent.
Extending their full support, the VCs agreed to work with the government by increasing efficiency and optimizing use of available resources, raising funds from all possible avenues, reducing operational cost and lessening non-productive expenses.
They reiterated that the quality goals would be requiring more financing than the IBC.
