5-day long polio eradication campaign began in Hyderabad district from Monday with assigned task of immunization of 336675 children of under five years age throughout Hyderabad district.

The Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Muhammad Aslam Soomro formally inaugurated the campaign by administering anti-polio drops to under aged children here at the vaccination centre of Shah Bhitai Hospital Latifabad.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said the children are the future builders of the nation and there is the dire need of providing healthy atmosphere to them with proper vaccinations against epidemic diseases.

He called upon the officers concerned to utilize all available resources in order to achieve the task of cent percent coverage of anti-polio vaccination among the targeted children. No negligence in this regard would be tolerated at any cost and those who found in negligence would be taken to task, he warned.

The District Focal Person on Polio Eradication Campaign Dr.

Masood Jaferi informed that 991 mobile vaccination teams have been activated to immunize anti-polio drops to 336675 under aged children in all four talukas- Hyderabad City, Latifabad, Qasimabad and Hyderabad Rural- of the district.

Besides, he informed that 117 vaccination teams have been engaged in administering drops at the fixed centres while 23 vaccination teams have also been deputed at the transit points of the district to carry out vaccination.

The Deputy Commissioner later visited different wards of the Shah Bhitai Hospital including casualty, general and kidney wards where he asked the staff concerned to ensure cleanliness with availability of all necessary medicines and other facilities for patients.

The Superintendent Shah Bhitai Hospital Dr. Nasreen Memon briefed the Deputy Commissioner about the available facilities with shortage of required medicines. The DC assured provision of required medicines to hospital management.
