Call To Promote Balanced Nutrition, Breastfeeding

Planing and Development Department (P&D) in collaboration with United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) organized a seminar on benefits of balanced diet for human growth.
Punjab government's Representative Dr Irfanullah said that about 14 departments including health, education, fisheries, food, livestock and others were working jointly to address the nutritional issues.
In order to address health issues of infants, teenagers and others, the focus in being paid on preventive measures against disease. Proper nutrition can help save people from different ailments, said Dr Irfan and added that the government was imparting awareness on balanced diet among masses.
The country have enough resources available for growth of people but the people lacked proper guidance about the use of balanced nutrition.
UNICEF Nutrition Specialist Dr Shafique highlighted the importance of breastfeeding.
He stated that mother's milk contained almost all ingredients, needed for proper upbringing of infants.
He suggested that mothers should feed their kids as it would help maintaining health of the both, mother and infant.
In south Punjab and Interior Sindh, the breastfeeding is low as compared to other regions. Breastfeeding enabled physical, mental, psychological and emotional growth of kids, he remarked.
Civil society workers and media persons were also present.
