Diabetes is a fatal disease if not cured in-time as there is one new case of diabetes after every three seconds and it claims one life after every six seconds in the world.
This was stated by experts while speaking at an awareness programme organised by the University of Faisalabad (TUF) in connection with World Diabetes Day here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Zahid Masood Head of Community Medicine Department TUF disclosed that according to a recent survey around 26 per cent Pakistani population might be suffering from diabetes and there was no significant difference between rural and urban population.
Faculty members Prof Mirza Akmal Sharif and Dr Rehan also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the effects of diabetes on heart.
A large number of university students and teachers also attended the programme which followed by an awareness walk.
Meanwhile, a similar programme was also organized at Government College University Faisalabad and where GCUF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali presided over the event.
Speaking at the seminar at GCUF, Prof Dr Altafur Rehman said that more than 9 million people in Pakistan were suffering from diabetes and this disease was spreading rapidly due to complicated life. "We should adopt simple way of life to get rid of diabetics like diseases," he added.
Later, a screening camp was also arranged at GCUF besides distribution of charts inscribed with important information and precautionary measures about diabetes.
