Firm health policies for better results were stressed

For more responsive role towards public needs, the policy makers must make best use of health research's findings and firm up health policies to bring better results in health sector of the country.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Sep, 2018 ) :For more responsive role towards public needs, the policy makers must make best use of health research's findings and firm up health policies to bring better results in health sector of the country.

Secretary Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination Capt (R) Zahid Saeed said this while addressing at the closing ceremony of first Annual Health Research Conference organized by Pakistan Health Research Council (PHRC) here Tuesday. He said there is a dire need of applied research in the country. The Secretary said, investment in the health research is critical as gap in evidence impede out effort to meet key challenges in health sector such as prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.

He said we must develop and promote a research culture in the country. He congratulated the organizers for successfully conducting the Conference and said, such conferences can bridge up the gap between research, policy formulation and implementation.

Executive Director, PHRC and Additional Secretary Ministry of NHSRC Muhammad Ali Shahzada mentioned that the health researchers have completed their task by concluding studies and sharing findings. By joining hands together, we would be able to raise the sensitivity levels in all important segments of our society for rational review of not only our public health policies but social behaviors as well, he added.

Dr Abdul Basit also spoke on the rise and tackling of non-communicable diseases in developing countries.

These 250 presentations covered all thematic areas of the Conference including 36 talks on Non Communicable Diseases, 25 on health system research and 15 each on communicable diseases and on genetics. Similarly, 11 talks were given on maternal and child health and on drug research each and 8 were on nutritional matters.
