The fruit is consumed for its soothing and cooling effect in summer as well as for other health benefits. Falsa contains high levels of potassium, and is rich in Vitamin C, calcium, phosphorus and fiber. The seeds contain palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids.
Falsa peel has the highest antioxidant activity followed by the pulp and then the seeds and it also offers radiation protection.
A buyer Saleem Ahmed at the city market said "Fresh falsa drink is my family's favorite drink specially at Iftaar, its so light and refreshing, in this hot month of Ramadan it works good".
A fruit shop keeper Sajid Malik said a sale of false increased in the month of Ramadan as people use to make fresh n chilled drink at Iftaar time as it is excellent to alleviate summer thirst and hot weather -related problems.
A house wife Iram Masood said,it is so quick drink to make, it requires you to mix Falsa, water, sugar and black salt. Add ingredients according to taste and chill it before drink.
Its tart-sweet taste is loved by Pakistanis of all ages she added.
