Gourmet Bottled Water Declared Unfit For Human Consumption

Five brands, including Gourmet, Aqua Super Life, Shiraz, Aqua Splash and Marina were found to be unsafe due to microbiological contaminations

Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 2nd August, 2018) Pakistan Council of Research for Water Resources (PCRWR) has declared five bottled water brands, including Gourmet bottled water, unfit for human consumption.

In its latest ‘Quarterly Report Bottled Water Quality’, the PCRWR has found five bottled water brands, including Gourmet, Aqua Super Life, Shiraz, Aqua Splash and Marina Drinking water, unsafe for human consumption.

“Comparison of analytical findings with permissible limits of Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority [PSQCA] has revealed that five brands (Gourmet, Aqua Super Life, Shiraz, Aqua Splash and Marina) were found to be unsafe due to microbiological contaminations,” the PCRWR stated.

According to the report, Gourmet bottled water may contain microbiological contaminations, which can cause diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases. Samples of 85 ‘mineral/bottled’ water brands were collected from major cities of Pakistan, including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar to conduct the research.

Due to the poor quality of drinking water, there has been a mushroom growth of bottled water industry in the country is witnessed during the last few years. However, many of the mineral water companies were found selling contaminated water, the report further said.
