ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Nov, 2018 ) :Physical inactivity in modern youth can cause numerous and long-term negative consequences by placing teenagers at risk of poor physical, social, intellectual, emotional and mental health outcomes in adulthood.
Physical activity strengthens a child's muscles and bones, prevents excessive weight gain, and reduces the risk of diabetes, cancer, and other conditions, Child Specialist Huma Seemab said while talking to a private news channel.
Expert says physical activity allows children to have a better outlook on life by building confidence, managing anxiety and depression, and increasing self-esteem and cognitive skills.
She mentioned, modern youth are becoming weaker, less muscular and unable to do physical tasks that previous generations found simple.
"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity," she highlighted.
Physical workout also helps us with memory retention. It also increases planning ability, as physical exercise helps the brain cells to grow and sprout, she adds.
She explained , access to wrong information on the internet, frozen foods readily available in the market and over consumption of chicken carrying testosterone hormones are also contributing factors for being overweight.
Avoiding fizzy drinks, taking food in small portions and a regular intake of fresh fruits and vegetables are a smart choice for an overall healthy lifestyle, she added.
"People need to adopt a simple lifestyle, eat healthy food and exercise daily to avoid obesity and that will help prevent different diseases," said the expert.
She said the extra fats in the body caused obesity, which are produced by unhealthy diet, oily food, cold drinks, junk food, etc., therefore people must take balanced diet to stay fit and healthy. Presently, one fourth of world's population is obese and it is feared that half of world's population will become obese by 2030.
Child specialist said lack of awareness was a biggest cause of late diagnosis of diseases, which aggravated the diseases beyond cure. She urged the masses to eat healthy in moderate quantity and do regular exercise to avoid obesity and prevent many diseases.
She further advised , we must provide supervised moderate or intense physical exercise for at least 60 minutes every day.
This physical activity should be designed to promote a healthy, active lifestyle and increased physical fitness.
Specialist emphasized , without learning the essentials of physical exercise our children can neither have fun in games nor can they get better at activities. Expertise in basic skills like running, catching, dodging, jumping, skipping, kicking etc. will enable them to participate in activities confidently.
She suggested to parents must also try to encourage children by helping them engage in active transport like bicycling.
Play badminton, cricket, football or any sport alike at least twice a week after the school hours. Make a habit of going for a short walk with your kids where you can also discuss the day.Take kids for camping at least once a month.
