Marking World Diabetes Day, the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), part of Mubadala's integrated network of healthcare providers, worked with Make-a-Wish Foundation UAE to grant the wishes of children with type-1 diabetes during a ceremony held at the centre recently.
"Through this ceremony, we are sharing with everyone at ICLDC the power of a wish, because we believe wishes have the ability to transform children's lives, especially the lives of those who suffer from chronic diseases that require lifelong management," said Hani Al Zubaidi, Chief Executive Officer of Make-a-Wish Foundation UAE.
"For children with diabetes, having their one true wish granted makes them feel in control again and empowered to beat their illness, and it is a very humbling experience to be part of this process and to impact those children's lives." Ten youngsters with type-1 diabetes were granted their wish during a short ceremony, followed by a diabetic-friendly lunch complete with cake. Afternoon activities included face-painting, arts and crafts and a balloon art demonstration.
The non-profit organisation arranges memorable experiences for children with critical illnesses.
