"I am happy that VC FJMU Professor Amir Zaman has initiated project to set up two more labour rooms at Gangaram Hospital, this would reduce burden on emergency department," she appreciated.

Yasmin Rashid expressed her pleasure that the FJMU had beccme the first university which had set up its own DNA lab.

"The same university was running world's largest Thalassaemia programme, and I am proud to be a fellow at FJMU," she added.

To a question regarding abolishment of pro-chancellor designation, the minister said that a committee had already been working on it.

"The PTI government wants to see universities as fully autonomous bodies on both financial and administrative levels," she added.

"Medical education at public sector institutions is almost free in Pakistan and the government spends Rs 7 million on education of each student.

However, fee of private medical colleges is being regulated on the directions of the Supreme Court," replied Yasmin Rashid to a query.

"Brain-drain is not in the interest of the nation and we have to offer maximum jobs to our fresh medical graduates," she said. "Fifty per cent posts of faculties in medical institutions are lying vacant," regretted the minister.

She dispelled an impression of shortage of medicines at any public health facility, saying "We have sufficient stock of drugs till December." She ruled out chances of expired medicines at any government health centre.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor FJMU Professor Amir Zaman presented a 37-point agenda in the syndicate meeting.

The participants in the meeting expressed concerns on dangerous condition of servant quarters of Gangaram Hospital.

It was decided that new multi-storey buildings would be constructed by the FJMU through its own resources.

The syndicate also recommended award of contract to ad-hoc employees by giving them relaxation in age.

"Ninety Ad-hoc employees can appear in examination with 10 grace marks for their 7 years experience. This would pave the way for their regularisation," added the VC.

Moreover, the syndicate approved extension of hostel of the university besides purchase of three new buses for students.

It was decided during the meeting that the FJMU would purchase a piece of land from its own resources for the proposed new campus.
