Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Sindh chapter has announced that the doctors in the province will observe a black day in protest against the policies of Sindh Health Department.
Addressing a press conference at the local press club here Saturday, PMA's General Secretary Dr Pir Manzoor Ali deplored the posting of the medical officers from different districts of Sindh to Tharparkar district.
He contended that the Supreme Court had ordered the Sindh Government to appoint doctors for Tharparkar district. "However, the government has transferred around 300 doctors from different districts of Sindh to Tharparkar," he claimed.
Ali maintained that the sudden transfers from several districts had created a shortage of doctors in those districts.
"We are not against the transfers of the doctors but there is ought to be a clear policy and rules," he said.
He suggested that the policy should prioritize that a doctor possessing domicile of a particular district should be posted in that district.
"It's unjust that the doctors from Karachi and Hyderabad are made to work in Tharparkar while the doctors who belong to Tharparkar work in these districts," he said.
The PMA's leader further claimed that Sindh Health Department was threatening many other doctors that they would be transferred to Tharparkar.
Dr Gulzar Jumani, Dr Lala Jaffar, Dr Abid Qaimkhani and other office bearers of PMA Sindh were also present.
