Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar Meets DFID Chief, Promises Good Governance

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will provide relief to masses through improved mechanism of good governance.
He said this in a meeting with the head of UK's Department for International Development (DFID) in Pakistan Joanna Reid, who called on the chief minister at his office, here on Thursday.
The two sides discussed the DFID funded social sector development programme in Punjab and it was agreed upon by the DFID to extend necessary cooperation to the reforms agenda of the incumbent government.
The Punjab chief minister said that DFID is the best partner of the Punjab government for development of social sector and added that the partnership will be further expanded.
People will be facilitated through an extended role in health, education and skills development sectors as the government believes in durable development, he said.
The CM said that investment in human development was the best investment for bright future of the country. "We will give rights back to people by providing better facilities and people's sense of deprivation will be removed by developing the far-flung areas of the province," he added.
The chief minister appreciated the cooperation extended by the DFID in healthcare, education and skills development sectors, adding that its role in providing necessary facilities at the doorsteps of the people and provision of girls' education in remote hinterlands, especially in the tribal areas of Punjab, will be welcomed.
He said that provision of balanced diet to the children had been especially taken care of to make the younger generation healthy and added that the government was willing to extend the scope of DFID's cooperation in nutrition programme.
He also appreciated DFID support in economic empowerment of womenfolk.
DFID Head Reid assured that DFID would continue its cooperation with the Punjab government and support would also be provided for reforms agenda.
A spokesman for CM, Dr Shahbaz Gill, Chairman P&D, Principal Secretary to CM, secretaries of law and irrigation departmentsand others were also present.
