Smoking a major causes of heart diseases: PANAH

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Apr, 2019 ) :Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) President Maj. Gen. (R) Masud Ur Rehman Kiani said that 90 % of diseases are caused due to smoking.

Addressing a seminar at a local hotel here on Thursday, he said that approximately more than five thousand people are admitted to hospital and over three hundred people died due to curse of smoking on daily basis and according to a survey by increasing price of cigarettes, its consumption significantly reduced.

He informed that PANAH working to spread awareness for prevention of heart diseases since 35 years. He said that PANAH is running a consistent campaign against tobacco use in country. In this context, a committee has been formulate by Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) consisting of civil Societies, NGO's, Tobacco victims, Pakistan Famous Physicians and people from different aspect of life.

The purpose of this committee is spread awareness in general public about harmful impact of smoking and to make government of Pakistan realize that due to smoking major class of society is suffering in our country, he added.

In this seminar, Ex. Surgeon General of Pakistan Army Lt. Gen. Mustafa Kamal Akbar, Senior Cardiologist Maj. Gen Muhammad Ashraf Khan, Senior Cardiologist Maj. Gen Ashur Khan, Senior Vice President PANAH Dr. Abdul Qayyum Awan, Senior Pulmonologist Prof. Dr Wajid Ali, Gen Sec PANAH Sana Ullah Ghumman along with representative of SPARK, HDF, Saade welfare organization, True sight welfare organization, Nayyab Welfare organization, Women Welfare Association, Family physicians, Social welfare Society, Hasna Welfare Foundation, Nejat Trust, Baghban welfare organization, Pakistan Horticultural and other people participated in the seminar.
