Sindh Health Secretary had approved the proposal of converting much publicised Trauma Centre Hyderabad into the teaching hospital of dermatology of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro.
In this regard, the Commissioner Hyderabad Muhammad Abbas Baloch handed over the files of Sanctioned New Expenditures (SNE), building, equipments, machineries and sanctioned staff to Prof. Dr. Doulat Rai Bajaj, Chairman Department of Dermatology of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro here at a meeting at Shahbaz Hall on Tuesday.
The Trauma Centre was the project of the former District Government Hyderabad which was completed at a cost of Rs. 150 million on National Highway at Hala Naka and inaugurated by former District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jameel in October 2009.
But since inauguration, the said trauma centre remained inactive to serve the purpose for which it was established with highly publicized claim that after Karachi it is the only centre which handle the cases of fatal injuries with availability of all required facilities.
Following inactivation of the trauma centre, then Commissioner Syed Asif Haider Shah expressed his annoyance over non-functioning of the said trauma centre and directed to health department for its reactivation so that the centre could be able to deal the fatal cases.
Syed Asif Haider Shah while holding meeting in the month of November 2014, directed the opening of the OPD of Department of Neurology of Liaquat University Hospital, but finally after passage of four years, Sindh Health Department had decided to handover the centre to LUMHS management for setting up the dermatology hospital following the proposal of Hyderabad administration.
While handing over the files of the SNE, centre's building, equipments, machineries and assigned staff to Vice Chancellor LUMHS, Prof. Dr Beekha Ram on Tuesday, the Commissioner Hyderabad Muhammad Abbas Baloch said that this dermatology hospital would be made functional likewise the dermatology hospital of Karachi and provide treatment of skin diseases to the patients of Sindh.
He asked the Assistant Commissioner Hyderabad City to ensure removal of all encroachments around the centre so that it could be made functional accordingly.
The Vice Chancellor LUMHS Prof. Dr. Beekha Ram while speaking on the occasion underlined the need of resolving issues through joint efforts and make proposed dermatology hospital functional at the earliest instead of leveling allegations to each other.
The Commissioner Hyderabad assured the Vice Chancellor and the Chairman Department of Dermatology of providing maximum support to them in this regard.
