Typhoid Vaccine To Be Added To EPI In 2019: DHO

A new typhoid conjugate vaccine would be added to the national Expanded Programme for Immunization (EPI) in 2019,said District Health Officer District Health Authority Dr Abdul Jabbar here on Monday
RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jul, 2018 ) :A new typhoid conjugate vaccine would be added to the national Expanded Programme for Immunization (EPI) in 2019,said District Health Officer District Health Authority Dr Abdul Jabbar here on Monday.
The DHO told APP, that following new evidence about the threat posed by a strain of typhoid, it was decided in the last meeting of the Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination and GAVI, a global, public-private partnership that typhoid vaccine would be added in EPI for improving the immunity of children against diseases in 2019." With this addition, the EPI would vaccinate children against 10 deadly diseases � diphtheria, hepatitis B, meningitis, measles, childhood tuberculosis, tetanus, pneumonia, whooping cough, polio and now typhoid,he added Dr Abdul Jabbar said that vaccine was injectable and would be administered to children aged nine months along with the measles vaccine.
Typhoid fever, also known simply as typhoid, is a bacterial infection that causes weakness,abdominal pain,constipation and headache.
Typhoid is spread by eating or drinking food or watercontaminated with the feces of an infected person.
