Up To 90pc HIV Patients Will Get Compulsory Treatment: Minister

Sindh Health Minister Azra Pechuho has said steps are being taken to provide compulsory treatment to up to 90 per cent HIV/AIDS patients
The provincial minister along with State Minister Zafar Mirza paid a surprise visit to the Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College Hospital Sukkur on Thursday. She inspected the facilities and also spoke to many patients.
She said at present the government is maintaining a centralised system for treatment. HIV treatment services are being provided at 379 Family Health Awareness Centres at UC level and 24 District Family Health Centres of district headquarters hospitals,she added.
Azra Pechuho said the government is taking steps to provide free medical and social support services to those suffering from HIV.
She told the State Minister that the Sukkur hospital has set up a blood screening facility. She said that the main cause for the spread of the HIV is the lack of proper blood screening facilities in Sindh.
She said pregnant women are also been tested in the province to check against HIV risk. The State Minister observed the workings of various wards and spoke to doctors and emphasised the need for providing quality healthcare to patients.
