AJK Govt Unveils Ambitious Socio-Economic, Tourism Uplift Plan

MIRPUR-AJK, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Aug, 2024) The Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Friday formulated an integrated plan aimed at the holistic development of the socio-economic and tourism sectors in the region.
According to official sources, the Primary focus of the plan is to promote adventure tourism in AJK, with the aim of transforming the region into a major tourism hub in South Asia.
To this end, the government plans to organize a nationwide tourism conference in Mirpur in the near future, inviting renowned global tourism organizations.
The sources further revealed that the government is determined to improve the living standards of the common people and accelerate the pace of ongoing development projects in the liberated area.
Towards this end, the government has directed the relevant authorities to identify the problems faced by the common people and devise prompt solutions.
To boost technical education in AJK, the government has also decided to establish a Higher Technical Education board in the near future.
Additionally, the plan includes setting up Artisan Schools in Mirpur and Muzaffarabad to produce skilled manpower for the cottage industry.
The government is also taking steps to establish district-level Chambers of Commerce and Industry across AJK to promote trade and commerce activities.
Moreover, the plan involves expediting the development of projects such as the Export Processing Zone and Industrial Estates in Mirpur, the region's major industrial and business hub.
Recognizing the importance of engaging the overseas Kashmiri community, the AJK government has decided to invite them to participate in various developmental and educational activities as well as the business and industrial sectors.
An Overseas Kashmiris Cell is proposed to be set up at the Prime Minister's Secretariat in Muzaffarabad to facilitate constant liaison and provide them with relevant information.
To further boost sports activities, including first-class cricket, the AJK government has decided to set up the Kashmir Cricket Board, leveraging the world-class Mirpur Cricket Stadium.
The sources highlighted the government's determination to transform Mirpur into an attractive and model city of international repute by focusing on the tourism sector, where a conducive and peaceful atmosphere prevails.
To this end, the government plans to organize an international investment conference in Mirpur soon, aimed at promoting foreign investment in the trade and industrial sectors.
The acceleration of business and economic activities in the region is expected to lead to the overall socio-economic uplift and improvement in the living standards of the common people in AJK, the sources added.
