Ban on transmission of channels in IOK condemned

All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani and other Hurriyat leaders and organizations have condemned the authorities for banning the transmission of 30 channels operating through cable in the Indian held Kashmir.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jul, 2018 ) :All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani and other Hurriyat leaders and organizations have condemned the authorities for banning the transmission of 30 channels operating through cable in the Indian held Kashmir.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the ban on the channels as fascist approach and said that the real purpose behind the action was to promote saffron dogma and pave way for Hindu Rashtra, KMS reported.

He said that such tactics of oppression reflected the authoritarian mindset, adding that it was highly deplorable that even channels specified for religious preaching and teachings were removed from air.

The APHC Chairman castigating the Indian authorities for strangulating genuine voices said that they wanted to isolate the Kashmiri population did not want the reality of Kashmir to be highlighted internationally. They do not want people of Kashmir to have access to information other than what New Delhi filters into Kashmir through state sponsored and biased channels, he added.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, addressing media persons in Srinagar criticized the occupation authorities for banning Islamic and news channels. He said that the freedom of press had been considered the fourth pillar of democracy across the world.

"It is unacceptable to us the way they banning Islamic channels and it will be taken as waging war on freedom of press as well as freedom of religion," he said, demanding immediate revocation of this dictatorial order.

The President of Jammu and Kashmir Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen, Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, in a statement in Srinagar denouncing the ban on channels by the authorities, described it as an attack on the freedom of expression. He added that the assault on public opinion is clear violation of democratic values.

The High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir in its statement in Srinagar condemned the ban on channels and described it a blatant violation of the freedom of speech and expression. "The channels which have been banned are mostly transmitting or re-transmitting the programmes based on philosophy of islam," it said.

The Chairman of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), Muhammad Yasin Khan, in his statement in Srinagar condemned the banning of Islamic channels in the occupied territory said that the move was aimed at demeaning Islam, which is actually a religion of peace. "The decision has hurt religious sentiments of the people of the state," he added.
