Curbs in Srinagar to prevent Muharram processions

The authorities imposed restrictions in occupied Kashmir to prevent the mourning processions on the 8th of Muharram, today.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Sep, 2018 ) :The authorities imposed restrictions in occupied Kashmir to prevent the mourning processions on the 8th of Muharram, today.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Srinagar district administration imposed restrictions in Shaheed Gunj, Batamaloo, Sher Garhi, Karan Nagar, Kothi Bagh, Maisuma, Kral Khud, Ram Munshi Bagh and Nehru Park areas of the city.

Indian paramilitary and police personnel equipped with sophisticated weapons have been deployed while razor wire has been laid in all parts of the city to restrict the mourning processions.

It is to mention here that traditionally, the main procession of 8th Muharram procession used to start from Habba Kadal, Guru Bazar and Shaheed Gunj areas of Srinagar and culminates in Dalgate area. However, the occupation authorities had imposed ban on the procession in 1990s and now only small processions and rallies are allowed in selective areas.
