Kashmiri representative, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, has said that the longstanding conflict over Jammu and Kashmir has jeopardized the peace, prosperity and development of the entire South Asia besides bringing death and destruction in occupied Kashmir
According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS) , professor Shawl who also heads the UK-based South Asia Centre for Peace and Human Rights (SACFPHR) said this while addressing a press conference in Islamabad, today. The press conference was organized by SACFPHR with the support of all the international partners International Human Rights Association of American Minorities (IHRAAM), International Commission for Human Rights (ICHR), International Muslim Women's Union (IMWU), and Kashmir Youth Assembly (KYA). The event was held to highlight the designs of Hindutva forces in occupied Kashmir.
Professor Shawl said the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted on 10th December 1948 seems to be ironic in the context of occupied Kashmir.
The declaration says recognition of the inherent dignity of the equal and inalienable rights of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world, he said.
"There are thirty articles in the declaration and all are being violated in occupied Kashmir by the Indian forces due to the draconian laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA) that provide them with unbridled powers and unconditional impunity against any criminal proceedings and accountability in the highest militarized zone of the world," he added.
Professor Shawl said New Delhi is pursuing a comprehensive policy to defuse the ongoing widespread freedom movement in occupied Kashmir through multifarious strategies including the indiscriminate use of force and to completely merge the territory with India by abrogating Article 35-A and causing massive level demographic changes in violation of the international commitments made by it with the Kashmiris and the international community from time to time.
