JRL Urges Rights Bodies To Save Kashmiri Students' Future

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik strongly denounced the filing of a charge-sheet by the Delhi police against seven Kashmiri students in the 2016 Jawaharlal Nehru University sedition case
According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS) , a JRL spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar urged the international human rights organizations including International Committee of Red Cross, Asia Watch and Amnesty International to take serious notice of such nefarious practices carried out to ruin the careers of the Kashmiri students.
The Delhi police on Monday filed the charge-sheet naming former JNU student leaders Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and seven Kashmiri students as accused in the case.
"The students only participated in a programme organized by the JNU students' union in 2016 to condemn the undemocratic act of the government of India under which it hanged a son of the soil Muhammad Afzal Guru in Tihar jail under shadowy circumstances, without even informing his family members and in contravention to all established norms and rules," the statement read.
"To book the students in 2019 clearly exhibits vote-bank politics of the ruling dispensation.
To harass Kashmiri students pursuing studies outside Jammu and Kashmir is not a new practice. Earlier in many universities and colleges, Kashmiri students have been harassed and even beaten up, forcing them to drop the studies halfway and return home," it added.
"On the one hand, worst kinds of atrocities are being unleashed on the people of Kashmir and on the other, the career of Kashmiri students studying outside the territory is being ruined on one pretext or the other," the JRL said.
The leaders said the students only participated in the programme organized by JNU students Union in 2016 to condemn the undemocratic act of Government of India under which the son of soil Muhammad Afzal Guru was hanged in Tihar Jail under shadowy circumstances without even informing his family members and in contravention to all established norms and rules.
The Kashmiri students facing the sedition charge include: Aqeeb Hussain, Mujeeb Hussain, Muneeb Hussain, Umair Gul, Rayees Rasool, Khalid Bashir and Basharat AliMeanwhile, a group of Shia Ulema met Joint Resistance Leadership and reiterated support for the ongoing struggle for Right to Self Determination.
