Kashmiris to mark 'Darkest Day' on August 5

Kashmiris around the world are gearing up to observe August 5 as a day of protest against India's controversial decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir three years ago

MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Aug, 2024) Kashmiris around the world are gearing up to observe August 5 as a day of protest against India's controversial decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir three years ago.

The move is seen as a "darkest day" in the region's history, with various social, political, and religious organizations vowing to hold anti-India rallies and demonstrations across the Line of Control and globally. Organisers of the scheduled protest programmes told APP here on Friday.

The protest is a response to India's "nefarious" action, which abrogated Articles 370 and 35A, altering the disputed state's historical and geographical status.

Kashmiri leaders have denounced India as an "international terrorist country" and accused it of turning the region into the "world's largest prison."

Ex-central President of Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party, Syed Nishat Hussain Kazmi, condemned the settlement of non-Kashmiri Hindus in the region, warning of a "grave concern" over the changing population ratio and occupation of Kashmiri property. He urged the international community, including the UN, to take immediate notice of India's "open violation" of human rights and international norms.

The Kashmiri leader appealed for global support to resolve the Kashmir issue peacefully, ensuring lasting regional peace.
