Water level in Mangla dam starts receding

Water level in the country's largest Mangla dam is gradually receding since soon after the advent of winter as it was recorded 1148.20 feet against maximum conservation level of 1242 feet with live storage 1.706 MAF on Tuesday morning.

According to official sources, the overall position of the river inflows and outflows at Mangla, Tarbela and Chashma along with the reservoirs levels and the barrages on Tuesday remained as under: Rivers: Indus at Tarbela: Inflows 21900 cusecs and Outflows 59000 cusecs, Kabul at Nowshera: Inflows 6200 cusecs and Outflows 6200 cusecs, Jhelum at Mangla: Inflows 11700 cusecs and Outflows 23000 cusecs, Chenab at Marala: Inflows 10500 cusecs and Outflows 4000 cusecs.

Barrages: Jinnah: Inflows 71600 cusecs and Outflows 67600 cusecs, Chashma: Inflows 69200 cusecs and Outflows 61000 cusecs, Taunsa: Inflows 58700 cusecs and Outflows 50700 cusecs, Panjnad:Inflows 2000 cusecs and Outflows Nil cusecs Guddu: Inflows 39800 cusecs and Outflows 33300 cusecs, Sukkur: Inflows 29200 cusecs and Outflows 6000, Kotri: Inflows 3700 cusecs and Outflows Nil.

Reservoirs (Level and Storage): Tarbela: Minimum operating level 1386 feet, present level 1465.52 feet, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage today 1.906 million acre feet (MAF).

Mangla: Minimum operating level 1050 feet, present level 1148.20 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 1.706 MAF.

Chashma: Minimum operating level 638.15 feet, present level 643.60 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage today 0.091 MAF.

The inflows and outflows of River Indus at Tarbela and Chashma, River Kabul at Nowshera and River Jhelum at Mangla have been reflected as mean flows of 24 hours, whereas the other flows have been gauged at 6.00 a.m.
