First lady Bushra Bibi’s choice of veil has become an issue on mainstream and social media.
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 21st August, 2018) Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Salahuddin Mehsud has defended first lady Bushra Maneka’s choice of attire for her husband Imran Khan’s oath-taking.
First lady Bushra Bibi’s choice of veil has become an issue on mainstream and social media. At one hand, people are admiring her for keeping a veil while others are criticizing her saying she represents Pakistan as a regressive state.
Foreign journalist Sameera Khan while expressing her opinion on Bushra Bibi’s clothing had said, “She has every right to wear what she wants but as the wife of Pakistan’s leader, she represents all Pakistani women.
When the international community sees Pakistan as a regressive state that oppresses women, this is not the greatest representation of Pakistani women.”
To this, the former IGP said, “Why do we have to set our clothing standards per western opinion..An educated woman wearing hijab is her own choice.. Muslim women in Europe are not only wearing it but fighting in courts to set the principles... Allah has set better standards and more option in religion.”
However, how a woman chooses to dress is completely her own choice. The society cannot any longer exert pressure on them on how to speak and present themselves.
