Cabinet Approves Formation Of "UAE Council For Fatwa"

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 24th Jun, 2018) The UAE Cabinet approved the formation of the "UAE Council for Fatwa," which will be chaired by Sheikh Abdallah bin Bayyah, President of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies, to coordinate fatwas and unify their sources, as well as review issues related to national policies.
The Council will be the official reference for fatwas in the country and will aim to combine relevant efforts, visions and objectives, and organise the work of government authorities, institutions and individuals related to fatwas.
The Council will issue general fatwas concerning various topics, upon the request of official authorities, institutions or individuals. It will is also grant licences to issue fatwas, train muftis and develop their skills, and conduct related studies and research, in coordination with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments.
The Council’s members will include experts and those who specialise in Islamic Sharia, from both inside and outside the UAE, such as Omar Habtoor Dheeb Al Darei, Shamma Youssef Mohammed Al Dhaheri, Abdullah Mohammed Ahmed Al Ansari and Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Youssef Al Shehi from the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, as well as Ahmed Abdulaziz Qassem Al Haddad from the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, Salem Mohammed Al Dobi from the Islamic Affairs Department in Sharjah, Ibrahim Obaid Ali Al Ali from the Umm Al Qaiwain Court, Hamza Youssef Hans, Director of Zaytuna College in California, and Amani Borhan Al Deen, Chairwoman of the Indonesian Council of Scholars for Women and Youth Affairs.
The Council will also supervise fatwas issued by other authorities, and will represent the UAE at international conferences and seminars related to fatwas.
