SHARJAH, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 15th Nov, 2018) The Breastfeeding Friends Society, one of the health promotion associations at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, concluded its events and activities for National Breastfeeding Week 2018, which were held between November 4-10. The society succeeded in promoting its awareness messages to more than 900 mothers and young women all around the UAE.

The organisation, which operates under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, hopes that raising awareness and encouraging breastfeeding, will help improve the psychological and physiological health of mothers and children.

The Breastfeeding Friends Society organised educational lectures, awareness platforms, workshops, and family competitions in more than 25 government agencies, hospitals, health centres, schools, and nurseries in Sharjah, Dubai, Ajman, and Fujairah. The events of the society were met with enthusiasm by mothers and their children, in addition to employees of the health sector and various members of the community.

Khawla Al Noman, Head of Breastfeeding Friends Society, stated that the society’s goals for promoting breastfeeding, and encouraging mothers to protect the health of their children in order to maintain a healthy society, are in line with the vision of the National Breastfeeding Week, which aims to achieve a better future for the current and upcoming generations by protecting them and ensuring their safety and health, as well as decrease their chances of illness.

Al Noman praised the efforts of the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the other government health institutions and private entities for raising awareness on breastfeeding, not because it is a healthy choice, but because it represents a vital health necessity that plays a positive role in raising children. She also praised the cooperation of a number of hospitals, health centres, schools, and kindergartens for organising events that were held by the organisation during National Breastfeeding Week.

A delegation from the society also visited a number of maternity wards to congratulate mothers on their babies and offer advice on how to breastfeed, as well as highlight the importance of breastfeeding in preventing children from diseases and enhancing their immunity.
