China to showcase Belt and Road Initiative, its consultative democracy at EXPO 2020 Dubai

DUBAI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 15th Jul, 2018) China has announced that it will discuss the 'One Belt, One Road Initiative' and the success of its consultative democracy, as well as the various technological and scientific achievements that will shape its modern future, during its participation in the upcoming Expo 2020 Dubai, where it will be represented by a 4636 square metre pavilion costing over AED367 million.

The Chinese pavilion at the expo will be a key platform for showcasing country's historical and cultural heritage, its technical and industrial innovations, as well as for highlighting promising opportunities for international cooperation, with a focus on reviewing bilateral relations.

The country’s consultative democracy is a unique form of socialist democracy, which involves consulting various sides, the National People's Congress, the government, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, CPPCC, grassroots and social organisations, and is an important platform that guarantees the right of the people to effectively participate in daily political life.

In a report to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, CPC, Xi Jinping, General-Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPC, highlighted the importance of holding consultation sessions in a more flexible and sustainable way.

He also explained that consultative democracy aims to strengthen China’s overall reforms and develop socialist and multi-level enterprises, and represents the essence of popular democracy, following extensive discussions and consultations among the masses. It will also promote democracy, encourage collective wisdom, unify people's ideas, and enable decision-making in a scientific, democratic and practical way to ensure the stature of the people as masters of their country, as part of a system with Chinese characteristics, and is an important platform for developing consultative democracy based upon socialist ideas.

Xi noted that China's socialist democracy involves people exercising their right to vote in elections, and intensive consultations before making major decisions to reach agreement on common issues. These represent institutional characteristics and advantages of China's socialist democratic politics, and the CPPCC plays a key role in developing consultative democracy, he added.

Xi also pointed out that China's successful overall development is the outcome of mutual consultations and the exchange of views at various meetings hosted by the CPPCC National Council. He stressed the need to meet society's common aspirations and needs as a whole, through grassroots efforts, under the umbrella of the Chinese socialist system, which is the essence of popular democracy.

Regarding the Chinese system, Li Junru, Executive President of the CITCPPCC Council and Vice President of the National Council of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, who also sat on the 10th CPPCC National Committee and the 11th CPPCC Standing Committee, said, "The Chinese people created a form of democracy that is in line with China's reality and the aspirations of the Chinese people."

Sessions of the CPC and the CPPCC are held annually in March and attract the attention of the international media. Representatives of National People's Congress, NPC, and members of the CPPCC can freely discuss and express their views and the aspirations of the Chinese people, as well as exercise democracy and discuss the national issues, on behalf of the Chinese public.
