DFWAC Discusses Combating Human Trafficking With Diplomatic Missions

The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, DFWAC, organised today the first 'Embassies Meeting' in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, MoFAIC, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, as a part of the foundation’s initiative to raise awareness among the most vulnerable group to human trafficking under the slogan "For Human Dignity".

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 30th Oct, 2018) The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, DFWAC, organised today the first 'Embassies Meeting' in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, MoFAIC, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, as a part of the foundation’s initiative to raise awareness among the most vulnerable group to human trafficking under the slogan "For Human Dignity".

The meeting was attended by Afra Al Basti, Director-General of DFWAC, Colonel. Dr. Sultan Hamid Al Jamal, Director of the Dubai Police Human Trafficking Control Centre, Khalil Khouri, Assistant Under-Secretary for Assistive-Employment Affairs at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and a number of ambassadors and diplomatic officials.

This meeting comes as a part of the foundation’s efforts as a member of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, to combat this crime and provide the necessary procedures to prevent this crime from happening.

The participants at the meeting discussed the possible ways of raising awareness about human trafficking and preventing this crime to happen to the vulnerable people from their countries, and also discussed the main challenges that face the efforts of combating the crime and traffickers.

The participants praised the efforts and the great achievements of the UAE in combating human trafficking, not only at the local level but also providing support and expertise for many concerned countries.

Afra Al Basti, said that this meeting reflects how the UAE is very keen and determined on combating human trafficking, not only on the country’s land but also in the source countries, pointing out that the only way to eliminate human trafficking is by collaborating between the concerned countries.

"we hope that this meeting will contribute to implement more procedures in the concerned countries to raise awareness about this cause and help in preventing human trafficking, and protecting the victims," she added.

Colonel. Dr. Sultan Hamid Al Jamal, reviewed during his speech at the meeting, the Federal law No. 51 of 2006 on combating human trafficking crimes, which was amended under federal law No. 1 of 2015.

Dr. Al Jamal stressed that the UAE provide a strong and effective laws and security system in combating human trafficking, which reflected on the reducing numbers of victims every year.

He pointed out that in a single crime of human trafficking there could be up to 5 countries involved, starting from the victim’s original country, the country of the passport they were given, the country they pass through, the country of their final destination and finally the country of the traffickers.

Khalil Khouri, reviewed during the meeting the role of the Ministry in protecting the domestic workers and similar groups from human trafficking by implementing new procedures and rules in employment contracts.
