Dubai Customs ends 2018 with numerous recognitions

DUBAI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 18th Feb, 2019) Dubai Customs maintained its position as a progressive government department which plays an important role in supporting sustainable economic growth in line with the eight principles of Dubai announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

These principles will help the three sectors: government, semi-government, and private, to work together and integrate for more opportunities in growth and investments.

Commenting on Dubai Customs’ achievements, Sultan bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and CEO, and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, said, "Customs convoyed Dubai in its development and progress trend in 2018, and supported the emirate by creating new economic sectors and providing jobs. They enhanced their services in support of digital trade and small and medium enterprises to empower investors and traders to expand their businesses. Following the 50-year charter, Dubai will establish the first virtual commercial zone in the world and Dubai Silk Road, among other leading projects in the pipeline. We are hosting EXPO 2020 and this urges us to work even harder and further develop our services to clients."

Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, said, "The year 2018 was a turning point in the development of trade and customs services provided to clients.

Making clients happier and more satisfied is a priority, and this can be done through the innovation of new services that facilitate their transactions and save their time. We use the latest applications and most advanced technology in our customs procedures in support of the emirate’s overall economic growth and its leading world position".

Dubai is successfully moving up towards a better worldwide status and position. The external non-oil trade in the first nine months of 2018 made AED965.3 billion and managed to attain a 13 percent growth in re-exports to AED299.2 billion, while imports made AED592.2 billion, and exports AED97.7 billion.

The number of customs transactions made by Dubai Customs in 2018 rose to 9.6 million compared to nine million in 2017, and the number of companies registered at Dubai Customs rose to 223,000 companies.

Dubai Customs clinched the award of government authorities supporting Expo 2020 for implementing an integrated initiative to sustain the use of the resources of Expo 2020 for future phase, as well as ensuring the quality of communication mechanism with Expo 2020 team through the formation of an integrated team and identifying clear tasks to coordinate between teams involved from both parties.
