ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 23rd Apr, 2019) Amid the thousands of local, regional and international athletes participating in numerous gender, age, weight, mobility and belt categories at this week’s Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (ADWPJJC) 2019, the proud father of one UAE family has revealed how jiu-jitsu has bestowed new-found confidence on his children.
Abdulghani AbdulRahman Al Ali, from Umm Al Qaiwain, has watched with unbridled joy this week as his five children – sons Rashid, 12, and Omran, 7; and daughters Mariam, 11, Sheikha, 10, and Salama, 5 – have gone head-to-head with children from across the globe in the Abu Dhabi World Youth Jiu-Jitsu Championship at Mubadala Arena.
With Salama’s natural ability evident from an early age in various competitions, the youngster’s proudest moment to date traces back to last year’s Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival as shebeat a Brazilian athlete.
Although the Al Ali family’s passion for jiu-jitsu is proving a uniting force in the household, Adbulghani is quick to highlight the UAE-wide team effort that has helped get the kids this far.
