NOUAKCHOTT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 20th Mar, 2019) The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, monitored the construction of the 'Sheikha Fatima Motherhood and Childhood Hospital' in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott. The AED2 million hospital construction is being implemented with the support of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, who is also the Honorary Chairwoman of the ERC.
An ERC delegation, led by Fahad Abdulrahman bin Sultan, Deputy Secretary-General for Development and International Cooperation, monitored the construction of the two-storey hospital, which will provide health services to mothers and new-born babies, and will include numerous health facilities, such as operations rooms, sterilisation rooms, and emergency reception and 20 beds.
The hospital is expected to receive 50 cases per day, and will help reduce the death rates of new-born babies and pregnant mothers, which are high in Mauritania.
Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, stressed that the efforts of Sheikha Fatima to support motherhood and childhood has helped care for mothers and children in many provinces, which lack the necessary services.
He added that Sheikha Fatima’s initiatives, through the ERC, have enhanced the organisation’s ability to launch projects that will fulfil the development needs of countries facing various humanitarian and developmental challenges, as well as ease the suffering of their peoples from poverty.
"Sheikha Fatima was and still is a strong pillar and key supporter of the ERC’s activities and humanitarian giving," he further added while stressing that Sheikha Fatima’s patronage of charitable and humanitarian organisations highlights the values that she aims to ingrain into the entire community.
Al Falahi said that the hospital will directly improve the lives of mothers while highlighting the ERC’s efforts to complete the project on time, as well as realise its health and humanitarian goals.
Mauritania’s recent humanitarian conditions have worsened the suffering of women, children and refugees from neighbouring countries caused by displacement and drought.
