ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 06th Dec, 2018) H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), stated that being connected to the past and the heritage of the grandparents, as well as understanding a country’s historic transformation, are key to the development and growth of modern communities, as they are the foundations on which people grow, raise their awareness, and improve their lives.
She made this statement today while visiting the historic area of Al Hosn, which was officially launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, yesterday, after the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi completed its reconstruction.
"It is a source of pride and honour to witness the reconstruction of this historic site in Abu Dhabi, which witnessed the transformation of the lives of the UAE people. Al Hosn reminds us of the sacrifices of our grandfathers and their ancient history, as they created miracles and faced difficult circumstances that enabled us to enjoy a modern life today. The presence of a historic cultural site the size of the Al Hosn Palace in the heart of Abu Dhabi reminds us of our roots, as we head towards a bright and positive future without forgetting the ancient heritage of our grandparents, which preserves our memory and history for future generations," Sheikha Fatima said.
"I congratulate everyone on the launch of the area of Al Hosn, and I call on citizens and residents to visit its historic, cultural and heritage landmarks, to learn about our history and heritage, both ancient and modern. Al Hosn is a heart that is open for everyone, and inside it, history pulsates and the UAE’s accomplishments are renewed," she added.
Sheikha Fatima toured the National Consultative Council, which was established by the country’s founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, between 1968 and 1970.
She also visited the historic Al Hosn Palace, which was transformed into a museum that showcases the history of Abu Dhabi. Sheikha Fatima viewed the exhibition in the palace’s internal fort, which was built in around 1795.
The exhibition recounts the lives of the grandparents and the story of the Bani Yas Tribe, who migrated from Al Dhafra to the coast of Abu Dhabi. It also recounts the history of the unification of the tribes by Sheikh Zayed the First, who received community members at his majlis inside the fort, and exhibits the personal possessions of Sheikh Shakhbout bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The exhibition also highlights the development of the modern city during the time of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and it displays his original passport and other important documents.
Sheikha Fatima then visited the external palace, which was constructed in the 1940s by Sheikh Shakhbout and includes his majlis.
She also visited the rooms of the royal family, which include artefacts from the time when Sheikh Shakhbout lived in the palace, including the personal rooms of Sheikh Shakhbout and Sheikha Salama bint Butti, as well as the "Women’s Majlis."
She then visited the House of Artisans and met several female artisans who specialise in various forms of traditional handicrafts. She concluded her tour by inspecting the external facilities of the Al Hosn area.
Sheikha Fatima was accompanied, during her tour, by several Sheikhas, female ministers and female leaders.
