General Union Of Arab Writers Expresses Solidarity With Mohammed Al Qaoud

The General Union of Arab Writers condemned the threats received by the Yemeni writer, Mohammed Al Qaoud, Head of the Yemeni Writers Union in Sana'a, from the Houthi militias.
ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 19th Dec, 2018) The General Union of Arab Writers condemned the threats received by the Yemeni writer, Mohammed Al Qaoud, Head of the Yemeni Writers Union in Sana'a, from the Houthi militias.
The militias threatened to kidnap and murder Al Qaoud, and terrorised him and his family and concerned intellectuals in Yemen and the Arab region.
The General Union of Arab Writers declared its solidarity with the Yemeni Union of Writers, which is chaired by the poet, Dr. Mubarak Salmeen, and with Al Qaoud.
In its press release, the General Union of Arab Writers, led by the Emirati poet and journalist, Habib Al Sayegh, Secretary-General of the union, stated that Al Qaoud’s security is the responsibility of the militias which control Sana’a while highlighting his key role in enriching literature and supporting generations of Yemeni writers and poets.
Al Sayegh added that everyone should enjoy their freedom of expression, as granted by laws and national constitutions, as well as conventions ratified by the United Nations, UN, and the Security Council, which ensure freedom of expression for all people, as long as they are not carrying arms and have not terrorised civilians or threatened the safety of public and private establishments.
He urged the militias to respect the rights of others and stop terrorising poets, writers, intellectuals and all Yemenis who are against their actions.
