ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 20th May, 2019) The General Women’s Union, GWU, distributed Ramadan Mir to vulnerable families and its new employees, as part of its humanitarian initiative marking the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day.
Noura Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GWU, said that the launch of the initiative is due to the directives of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, to participate in the country’s celebration of the day.
She added that the initiative is part of the GWU’s keenness to celebrate the memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his role in establishing the UAE’s legacy of humanitarian giving, through promoting humanitarian work while pointing out that after 15 years, the country is still witnessing Sheikh Zayed’s international giving.
Al Suwaidi noted that Sheikh Zayed established a clear approach to promoting development and humanitarian work, which has reinforced the UAE’s position in the international community as a leading donor while highlighting the country’s sustainable development efforts, its participation in humanitarian initiatives, and its support for many humanitarian causes.
