Hamdan Bin Zayed Chairs 2nd ERC Board Meeting For 2019

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 25th May, 2019) H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, presided over the Authority's 2nd board of directors meeting for this year in Abu Dhabi today.
Sheikh Hamdan said at the beginning of the meeting that the initiatives launched during 2019, the 'Year of Tolerance' reflect UAE's vision for promoting the noble values of humanity and stress the country's universal message of solidarity, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
He added that the humanitarian initiatives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan had enhanced the ERC's operations locally, regionally and internationally.
He also applauded the unlimited support extended to the ERC's programmes by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Sheikh Hamdan conveyed to the board members the leadership's appreciation of the role played by the ERC in providing assistance to the displaced people in the areas hit by disasters and conflicts.
The board reviewed reports submitted by the ERC Secretary General on the Authority's relief and development programmes to assist the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, as well as the emergency response programme in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, following the devastation incurred by Cyclone Idai.
Also reviewed was the progress of ERC's Ramadan programmes in 83 countries in the Year of Tolerance. Some 1.5 million people are expected to benefit from these programmes.
The Ramadan Programme in the UAE, which includes Iftar, Zakat Al Fitr and Eid clothing, targets 575,000 beneficiaries, including 477,000 benefiting from Iftar meals, 44,860 from foodstuff distribution to needy families during the holy month and 53,215 from Zakat Al Fitr.
The board members were also briefed about the ERC's recent initiatives, as well as smart and innovative solutions and mobile applications introduced to attract more support to the Authority's activities.
