Joint museum studies programme begins September in Sharjah

SHARJAH, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 21st Apr, 2019) Applications for the SAWA Museum Academy have opened, the Sharjah Museums Authority, SMA, has announced. The academy's joint programme intends to bring together museum studies students and museum professionals from the MENA region and Germany.

The academy is designed to create a multicultural learning environment for Arab and German students to gain knowledge and fundamental skills in multicultural museum management and curatorial approaches.

The programme will first take place in Sharjah from 15th to 25th September, while the second half will be carried out in Germany's Berlin rom 8th to 15th June.

Manal Ataya, Director-General of SMA, explained that SAWA, which means together in Arabic, is a unique programme that develops skills by equipping students with tools and international best practices in museum administration, as required in today’s world.

Ataya noted that SAWA is a testament to the role of museums as bridges that connect different cultures and elevates the important Sharjah-Germany relationship, which was forged by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, over many decades.
