Kuwait Staunch Defender Of Arab Interests: Yemeni FM

KUWAIT CITY, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 08th Apr, 2019) Yemen's Foreign Minister Khaled Al Yamani has hailed Kuwait's "forceful and energetic" defence of Arab interests, the Kuwait news Agency, KUNA, has reported.

The agency said Al Yamani told reporters, on the sidelines of his official visit, that despite pressures it faces, Kuwait always emerges as a "vigorous and passionate" defender of the Arab world and its interest.

He highlighted Kuwait's active and remarkable role at the UN Security Council to support Yemeni interests, defend its legitimate government and promote the Arab coalition's view on developments in Yemen.

"Kuwait was and continues to be a backer to the Yemeni people," Al Yamani said. He recalled Kuwait hosting the intra-Yemeni talks in 2016 to help achieve a peaceful solution to the Yemeni crisis.

The agency reported the top Yemeni diplomat as saying a series of fruitful talks with Kuwaiti officials were held, revealing that the two countries are working on launching a joint committee to boost cooperation across various domains.

Al Yamani, KUNA said, also touched on the UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths' efforts to achieve peace in the country. "The UN envoy is doing a great job, but Houthis are not the ones who accept peace or respect its obligation," he argued, citing the Houthis' failure to fulfil their obligations in the Stockholm Agreement, particularly their withdrawal from Hodeidah.
